A dagger from beyond the arc by Marko Guduric with 1:17 remaining made it a 10-point affair and sealed the outcome of the EuroLeague Turkish derby in favor of Fenerbahce.
The reigning champions defeated Anadolu Efes 81 – 70 and improved their record to 2-1, keeping their opponents winless.
Efes will look to bounce back in two days against CSKA Moscow while Fenerbahce travels to Athens for Zeljko Obradovic to once again be in familiar “OAKA” arena vs Panathinaikos.
The Star: Brad Wanamaker was here, there and everywhere for his team. With the most diverse performance (14 points, seven assists, six rebounds, 20 PIR) and since he arrived in Fenerbahce, and wonderful defense on his opposing guards, the American player had a truly difference-making contribution in his team’s victory.
Ten minutes of fury: The two teams were tied 41 – 41 at the break yet Fenerbahce stormed into the second half dominating on both ends and even grabbing a 12-point lead, 56 – 44, near the end of the third quarter.
Krunoslav Simon‘s (20 points, five rebounds, four assists) and Bryant Dunston‘s (14 points, five rebounds) tried to help Efes come back but coach Velimir Perasovic‘s team never fully recovered.
For Fenerbahce, Jan Vesely had a team-high 15 points and James Nunnally scored 11.
