In Day 4 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and the first game of the day, Crvena Zvezda got the close 87-84 win over Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv thanks to Tyler Rochestie’s game-winning lay-up with just 15 seconds left on the clock.
DeShaun Thomas was really impressive for the losing side, he scored a career-high 28 points, however with Zvezda having an 86-84 lead, he missed the most crucial three-pointer of the game.
The star: Taylor Rochestie was the man of the match as he scored clutch shots down the stretch, the game-winning shot and finished with 22 points. Milko Bjelica was also really good for Red Star also as he finished with 16 points and played a crucial role in his team’s comeback. James Feldeine added 19.
The game: Even though Pierre Jackson picked up two early fouls in the first two minutes and had to take a seat on the bench, Jonah Bolden and Thomas stepped up and Maccabi managed to take a 7-point lead (12-19) (8:00) in the late first quarter.
In the second quarter, Zvezda pressured Maccabi and cut the lead down to two points (28-30) (14:00), but Jackson’s return to go along with Bolden’s, Thomas’ shots boosted the visitors and ended the half increasing the lead to double-digits (39-49).
The home team started off the second half with a run and cut the lead down to just two points (52-54) (26:00), with some tough shots and three-pointers. The race between the two teams remained close until the end.
The key: Zvezda’s comeback in the third quarter, while being down 10 points, to go along with Rochestie’s clutch gene down the stretch were two crucial factors in their second win this season.
