Zalgiris prolonged Efes’ woes

Zalgiris Kaunas grabbed a big win over Anadolu Efes at home with 91-83. The game was decided in the last quarter, where Zalgiris, for the most part, was dominant on both sides of the court and gained a considerable advantage. The Turkish side tried to bounce back and almost completed a comeback, but time run out and  Zalgiris got the win.

The star(s): Edgaras Ulanovas was the scoring leader with 22, notching 20 of them in the first half and finishing the game with a career high. Paulius Jankunas led his team in the second half, with 17 points.

The game: The first quarter of the game was close as both teams were efficient on both sides of the court. Ulanovas and White showed the way for Zalgiris, but the visitors had the lead as they scored 26 points, with Simon’s two three-pointers and six points by Dunston. With Ulanovas making some tough shots in the second quarter, Zalgiris took the lead increased it to seven points (47-40), but Efes responded with a run of its own. The first half ended 47-44.

After halftime, Efes was unable to score and had only seven points in the first six minutes. Adams added six points in the transition, trying to pull the lead back but Jankunas with three mid-range jump shooters and Davies kept the lead for the Lithuanian team.

In the last period, Zalgiris with precision and efficiency, mainly by Jankunas, increased its lead to double-digits. Efes tried but couldn’t make a comeback and made it a three points game (86-83), as Pangos made two tough shots, and didn’t let the visitors achieve something better.
