Valencia Basket was in control for the majority of the match but Brose Bamberg prevailed after an incredible comeback in the last quarter.
The final score was 83 – 82 in the duel among the national champions of Germany and Spain. Andrea Trinchieri’s men improved to a 5-4 record while the guests slipped to a 3-6 record after Day 9 on EuroLeague.
The key: San Emeterio made one of two free throws to give an 82-80 lead to Valencia and Bamberg had the chance to win it. Ricky Hickman got the call while shooting from the three-point territory and made them all completing an amazing night for the hosts.
The game: Valencia started “red hot” from the three-point range and led by 11 points (43 – 32, 16′). Ricky Hickman’s 17 first-half points kept Bamberg in the game (41 – 47).
In the second half, Valencia slowed down the hosts who scored just 11 points in the quarter, but they continued their terrific shooting performance. The visitors increased their lead reaching double-digits and the third quarter ended 66 – 52 in their favor.
Despite Tibor Pleiss dominance on both sides of the court, Bamberg started to reduce the deficit paced by Maodo Lo. The hosts went from a 69 – 81 with two minutes and a half left to 83 – 82.
The star: Ricky Hickman scored the free-throws that gave Bamberg the lead but also scored 26 points and had 4 assists. Augustine Rubit contributed with 13 points and 8 boards for the winners.
Not enough: With Bojan Dubljevic and Antoine Diot out due to injury, Valencia´s team effort showed up. Four players in double-digits and 12 three-pointers weren’t enough. Erick Green led the guests in scoring with 17 points.
