Eurohoops met the newly signed big man of Real Madrid after the game against Panathinaikos and of course one of the main matters of discussion was Luka Doncic.
The former NBA big man is already a fan of the teenage phenom: “He is unique. God gave him basketball talent. He is extremely talented. I think he will improve even more. He will become a great player. He can also evolve into the next triple-double man. For the moment he is totally focused on Madrid and when it’s time he will look into the NBA”.
Tavares also had good things to say about his mate on the front line, Madrid’s captain Felipe Reyes: “He is a great guy. It is very important to me that I can learn next to him. He takes time to help me on many things on the court. His experience is very important”.
And, of course, Tavares feels happy about being a member of one of the top clubs in the world: “I’m glad they gave me the chance to wear the Real Madrid jersey. It’s one of the best teams outside the NBA, so I’m not thinking about the NBA at this moment. It’s nice to return to Spain. I was very happy in Spain for six years. I like the culture and the people. It was an easy decision for me”.
And on a personal level, Tavares has to help the “Whites” who lost half of their front line to injuries: “I try to be ready for every game, to adjust as fast as possible and get some chemistry with my teammates. The NBA is different, it is faster. The experiences I have gained over the past three years will help me to be quicker and more effective away from the ball”.
