Valencia head coach Txus Vidorreta admitted that his players couldn’t overcome the defensive intensity that Olympiacos threw on them, especially in the first half.
“In the first quarter Olympiacos was better than us, especially with their defense, forcing three turnovers very easily and controlling the offensive and defensive rebounds,” Vidorreta said in the post-game presser. “We tried to come back during the final 35 minutes, but they are a great team and punished our little mistakes in defense. With their defense, one of the best in Europe, it was really tough for us to take chances to win.”
Vidorreta saw forward Joan Sastre getting injured near the end of the game after he fell badly on the floor following a pretty impressive dunk in transition.
“We will see how the situation with his hand evolves tonight and tomorrow. We are not pessimist and we don’t believe that there is a fracture,” said the Spanish coach.
