Mr. Forte will forever be intertwined with the history of Limoges, a club he led to a historic EuroLeague championship as a player and later served as head coach before assuming the role of president. His efforts in recent years led to a strong revival at the club, which won the French championship in 2015 and played two recent seasons in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. This season Limoges has reached the 7DAYS EuroCup Top 16.

Mr. Forte first joined Limoges as a player in his late teens. After two years ripening elsewhere, he returned in 1991 and was a core piece of the team that won the EuroLeague in 1993. Mr. Forte played a total of six seasons for Limoges and was also a longtime member of the French national team during a playing career that lasted until 2005. After retiring, Mr. Forte coached Limoges for two seasons and he has served as club president since 2004.

“We are terribly saddened about the tragic loss of Frederic Forte,” Euroleague Basketball President and CEO Jordi Bertomeu said. “On behalf of the entire Euroleague Basketball family, I want to express our condolences to his family and closest friends.”
