Maccabi’s bigs and big shots killed Milan

By Eurohoops team/ info@eurohoops.net

Maccabi Fox Tel Aviv ran over AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan for the 111-102 win in a high tempo game.

The Italians pushed for a comeback in the last minutes, but they weren’t successful. Maccabi was up by four points (102-98) with 1:45 left in the game when DeShaun Thomas nailed back-to-back triples followed by Pierre Jackson’s three-pointer that sealed the deal for the hosts.

However, it was the dominating front line got the job done tonight for Maccabi. Alex Tyus had a perfect night, not missing a shot and finishing the game with 14 points and 4 rebounds. Artisiom Parakhouski also had 14 points while Thomas added 18 points.

Maccabi scored 30 points in the first quarter and 18 of them were from the paint. Their pick and roll game was on a high-level as most of their points were coming from that play and Parakhouski couldn’t be stopped. The Belarussian big man finished the first quarter with 8 points. In the second quarter, Tyus continued Maccabi’s dominance inside the paint with 11 points while Parakhouski finished the first half also in double digits (10 p.).

Armani’s shooting from the three-point territory kept them alive in the first half as they were trailing by seven points only (57-50). Jordan Theodore started the game with two quick threes and in total, the Italians made eight out of 15 in the first quarter.

When three-points shots stop falling in during the third quarter Maccabi extended their lead up to 15 points (67-52). Despite Theodore’s 22 points, Milan recorded another loss as they are now standing on a 6-14 record.

After beating Crvena Zvezda last week this was a second straight win for Maccabi which now has an 11-9 record.
