American guard Mike James is expected to leave the New Orleans Pelicans in order to return to Greece for EuroLeague club Panathinaikos, where he also played in 2016-2017.
According to an official statement by Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos, the club “has agreed with James on everything and the player is… en route to OAKA (Panathinaikos’ home court). He’s waiting only for the typical release from the Pelicans.”
The 27-year-old combo guard signed a two-way contract with the Pelicans on January 14. He had begun the season with the Phoenix Suns and saw his two-way contract getting upgraded to a regular deal but he was waived on December 23.
Last season James averaged 13.1 points, 3 assists and 2.2 rebounds in EuroLeague plus 12 points, 2.8 assists and 2 rebounds in Greece. He helped Panathinaikos win both the Greek League and the Greek Cup titles.
Yesterday James also posted the following picture on his Instagram account.
