Crvena Zvezda president Nebosja Covic is mulling over stepping down at the end of the season, according to Novosti.
The main reason why Covic is considering of leaving the club is some recent reports regarding an alleged conflict between Red Star players and head coach Dusan Alimpijevic.
“I’m thinking about leaving. This job is becoming masochistic.Various pressures, comments, attacks. I don’t want to make any specific comment about this now. First I want to finish the season successfully,” Covic said per Novosti.
Covic’s comments came shortly following a story published by Serbian website Informer, regarding a “rebellion” led Crvena Zvezda captain Branko Lazic and veteran forward Pero Antic against coach Alimpijevic.
“It’s a fictional story made to strike at the club. It’s a threat to the team’s performance,” Covic said during a press conference held in “Aleksandar Nikolic” arena.
Lazic, Antic and coach Alimpijevic dismissed the story as “absurd” and “stupid.”
“We are doing great since the beginning of the season, we have a good chemistry and now someone wants to break it,” Antic said.
