Fenerbahce head coach Zeljko Obradovic praised the work that his former player Sarunas Jasikevicius does at the helm of Zalgiris Kaunas and said that it’s not surprising that the Lithuanian team is almost playoffs bound in EuroLeague.
“Saras is doing an excellent job,” Obradovic said per 15 Min. “Maybe for somebody else the results of Zalgiris are surprising. But for me, they aren’t. Zalgiris play very well this year.”
The nine-time EuroLeague champion saw Zalgiris beating his own team in Istanbul during the first leg of the EuroLeague regular season and thus expects a pretty competitive battle in the Kaunas rematch.
“It will be a very tough game. We know that it’s sold out so the atmosphere is going to be good. The game is a fine opportunity for my players to show what they can do.”
Fenerbahce stands at the third place of the EuroLeague standings with a 17 – 6 record and could potentially mathematically advance to the playoffs with a win while also getting closer to the homecourt advantage in the postseason. Meanwhile, Zalgiris Kaunas is fourth with 15 – 9 and a sweep over Fener will bring them even closer to the playoffs.
