Real Madrid got a huge 92-75 win over Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens in the Spanish capital. Pablo Laso’s team is now one victory ahead of the Greens (15-10 record) in the EuroLeague standings and keep their sights in the Top 4.
“Los Blancos” didn’t miss wonderboy Luka Doncic who was out with a thigh injury, because they have another playmaker in top form. Facundo Campazzo stopped Nick Calathes -10 points but also 4 turnovers and two airballs- and paced the winners with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. The Argentinian joined Fabien Causeur, who scored a season-high with 26 points and 4 assists, and the hosts’ backcourt took control of the game.
Real had an explosive start of the second half, as it happened in the first quarter (8 – 0, 3′) but this time Mike James who scored 23 points for the guests, was lonely and Panathinaikos couldn’t answer back. KC Rivers scored four three-pointers against his old teammates but his contribution was mainly registered in the first half.
Former Cavalier Edy Tavares was too big for the Greens’ defense and Madrid players found him in the paint to seal the victory. The Cape Verdean finished with 14 points, 7 boards and 3 blocks.
