Baskonia made a crucial 13-0 run down the last stretch to beat Valencia on the road. It was an important win for the visitors as they are chasing Maccabi for the eight position and playoff spot and their coach Pedro Martinez was aware of it.
“We knew before the game that Maccabi won their match so this was a very important win for us. We needed to stay close to them in the playoff race“, stated Martinez in the begging.
“The important thing is the players played better in the second half. We passed better and made a better defense, and I’m happy to beat a great team like Valencia. In the first half, we had some problems with our pick-and-roll defense, but we changed the tactics in the second half and I think it was a good decision for our team“, finished Martinez.
Despite leading most of the time Valencia lost the game tonight. Their coach Txus Vidorreta highlighted the last two minutes of the game as a crucial for the lost.
“It was a close game. We had the control during the first half, but in the last quarter and especially in the last two minutes we missed open shots and they had great percentages inside the paint. They scored with ease in the last moments and we missed the open shots, so it’s obvious who wins the game in these situations“, said Vidorreta.
