The Lithuanian pride qualified for the first time ever in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague playoffs and also they are back in the Top8 for the first time after almost 20 years.
Zalgiris Kaunas had won the EuroLeague back in 1999 before the modern era of the competition. Since then, Zalgiris never got back not just to the Final Four, but to the top eight teams of the competitions.
The previous milestone for Zalgiris was missing the chance to qualify for the Final Four of 2004 in the last season of Arvydas Sabonis’ career, after losing a crucial game by the eventual champions Zalgiris Kaunas. The game was send to overtime by Derrick Sharp’s last-second three-pointer at the end of regulation.
