Naturally, however, some teams have better records than others and we have grown accustomed to seeing them compete in the latter stages of the EuroLeague. At Eurohoops, we took a look at the modern era of the competition and dissected all the teams’ win-loss records since 2000.
Even though the level of the competition surges when it matters most (i.e. in the playoffs and the Final Four), the regular season also presents us with a variety of breathtaking games and finales. Considering the fact that all games played on the way to the ultimate goal have become much more important with the new format, one cannot underestimate the significance of any one particular game, even during the regular season. To put it briefly, teams have to work harder than ever before to clinch a spot and get home-court advantage in the playoffs.
CSKA Moscow is a great example of what we’re trying to describe. The Russian powerhouse has had an uninterrupted presence on the biggest stage and in the playoffs. Moreover, it is among the teams that have played the greatest number of games in the regular season as a result of their continuous presence in the competition, and this makes its win record even more impressive. CSKA has nothing to prove…
Apart from them, Spanish teams dominate the Top 10 since each season they manage to be contenders. Considering the number of titles and victories they have in the competition, one cannot be surprised at any of these teams’ records.
As for the Greek teams, just take a quick look at the number of championships they’ve won and Final Fours they’ve been to in the last 10 years. And it’s the same situation again this season. Each of the two teams has played 30 games and together they have a sum total of 38 wins between them. Surprised? Not at all.
An interesting fact about Zalgiris Kaunas: the Lithuanian champion is the only team in the Top 10 with a losing record, but that is just an illusion since they are one of the best and steadiest contributors in the EuroLeague. This season, Coach Sarunas Jasikevicius’s players have shown how strong they are with 18 victories.

Note: Since the format was different before the 2016-2017 season, Top 16 games are not included in our survey. In other words, the Regular Season Record consists only of the first stages of each season since the 2000-2001 season.
Even though the reigning champs, Fenerbahce Dogus Istanbul, are not on the list of the 10 teams with the most victories in the regular season, Coach Zeljko Obradovic and his players have reaped the fruits of their labor by getting on the list of teams with the most wins in playoffs history. Fenerbahce has 9 wins in total, all of which have come in the last three seasons against past champions Maccabi, Madrid and Panathinaikos.
Furthermore, the fact that we haven’t seen Virtus Bologna and Siena in the EuroLeague for several years now doesn’t mean that they haven’t achieved great things and that they don’t deserve to be mentioned among the winningest teams.
Except for these two, the best teams in the regular season will be providing us with more pure joy in the playoffs as well.
One way or another, no matter which powerhouse is playing, the EuroLeague is full of thrilling games, where it’s all about the quality and the love of the game.
