Panathinaikos‘ participation in the 2018-2019 EuroLeague is rather questionable under the current circumstances with the feud that has been going on by club owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos against Jordi Bertomeu, the CEO of the top-tier European competition.
While some believe that an A license might be up for grabs next season if the Greek powerhouse won’t continue in EuroLeague, Valencia vice-president Paco Raga doesn’t share the same opinion.
“I really don’t know if Panathinaikos is really going to lose that license,” Raga said to Super Deportes. “I think they are putting under pressure, but I think that vacancy will not happen. They said they are leaving but also said that they were going to make a poll to all their fans about this matter. However, nobody knows about that poll or the results of that survey. They say many things but, the truth is that they still are a Euroleague team.”
When he was asked if Valencia would want an A license, Raga said the following:
“We only want to participate in the EuroLeague for sporting merits. We don’t want A Licenses, but I also have to say that they haven’t offered it to us and no one from EuroLeague told us anything. We have always fought for the qualifying for sporting merits and would be a contradiction if they offered the license to us and we accepted it.”
