Fenerbahce Dogus Istanbul increased their playoff streak to 11-0 with a 95-89 win against Kirolbet Baskonia Victoria Gasteiz in Game 2 of Turkish Airlines Euroleague quarterfinals.
Jan Vesely led the charge with 16 points while Brad Wanamaker scored a game-high 19. On the other side, Matt Janning scored 17 points in addition to Vincent Poirier’s 14 points and tried to keep Baskonia alive in crunch time.
The game started better for Baskonia as they scored six points without an answer from the opponent forcing coach Zeljko Obradovic to call an early timeout. And it helped as his team overtook the game and created an eight-point lead throughout the first period but the Spaniards hit two 3-pointers in the last minute to decrease the margin (25-23).
It was mostly the same situation during the rest of the game with Fenerbahce having the upper hand but Baskonia always finding a way to come back, primarily thanks to their shooting from behind the arc. The halftime lead for Fenerbahce was 53-49, Baskonia trimmed it to three points (71-68) at the end of the third and stay close until the middle of the final period when the hosts broke their resistance and secured the game with Nicolo Melli giving them a 91-82 lead with 1,5 minute left.
The third game of the series is scheduled for Tuesday 24th of April in Fernando Buesa Arena in Vitoria where Baskonia will try to draw energy from the home crowd in order to stay alive in the series.
