Khimki Moscow guard Alexey Shved has broken or tied some significant EuroLeague scoring records in his eighth year in the competition.
Not only did the Russian guard set a new EuroLeague single-season scoring mark, in the second-to-last game before the completion of the regular season but also broke the late Alphonso Ford’s record for most consecutive games with 16+ points.
Records are fine, as long as they come as a package with the necessary wins, for the Khimki star.
“I did not follow my records, because most of them were told to me by the guys from the team. They said that somewhere near there are records that can be set. But the goal was never to break the record, because, as I always say, the main thing is victory, no matter how someone played in a separate match. But when you can play effectively or beautifully, this is only a plus,” Shved said in an interview for Khimki Moscow TV.
Shved is considered among the contenders to win season MVP, together with players such as Real Madrid guard Luka Doncic, Panathinaikos guard Nick Calathes or CSKA Moscow guard Nando De Colo. What are his thoughts on the matter?
“Of course, any player wants the title of the MVP of the Euroleague season, and I including, but it was never in my head that I will play today or tomorrow to get this title. You always play for the result, and this already comes as an addition. I will be interested to see the result of voting for MVP, when it will be announced.”
