Zalgiris is one win away from Belgrade’s Final Four. After blowing out Olympiacos Piraeus in Game 3 in Kaunas, Zalgiris’ coach Saras Jasikevicius and his opponent Ioannis Sfairopoulos shared a few words on the game.
“I think we played a really emotional game”, stated coach Saras. “To see our fans supporting us was great. I think basketball-wise we got to improve a lot. The elimination game is the hardest game in basketball to win and the team against us knows exactly how to play these types of games. We got to pay more attention to the small details. I think we were failing a little bit today, lost our composure in the third. Overall the best thing is that this is 2-1 for us. It doesn’t how many matter points or so on. We just got to go and prepare for Game 4.”
On the other hand, coach Sfairopoulos talked about the game, focusing on the third period and Zalgiris’ run: “I want to congratulate Zalgiris. They played much better and deserved to win. We started well in the first period, but the five offensive rebounds did not give us what they should have given us. In the second period, we played badly on offense and that affected our defense. Zalgiris got a big double-digit lead at half-time. Zalgiris and Jankunas responded perfectly in the third quarter when we came back. After that, it was very difficult for us to respond and come back.”
He also commented on Olympiacos’ injuries: “Printezis was injected before the game as was Milutinov. Strelnieks is not in his best shape as is Papanikolaou after their injuries, but we are in a middle of the series. They showed a willingness to play and this is in their favor.”
