Khimki Moscow is still alive in the playoffs race against CSKA after taking the 79-73 win in Game 3, in a game to be remembered for Bartzokas’ squad, as this marks their first ever playoffs victory.
Alexey Shved was catalytic for the winners, with 25 points, four rebounds and four assists. Additionally, Anthony Gill registered a nearly perfect night, with 22 points and seven rebounds, while he also tied his index rating record with 30 points.
With the game hanging on a thread, Shved stepped in with a huge basket that gave the hosts a safety net of six points (76-70) with 25 seconds to go. Following, CSKA lost its concentration and Charles Jenkins (5 points) drew two fouls on him, practically sealing off the game with two pairs of free throws.
Khimki’s winning duo overshadowed Cory Higgins’ career-high night of 26 points (that tied his previous record, against Khimki again a few months prior). Not only that but Higgins also finished the game with 35 points in index rating, the highest of his EuroLeague career.
Now the record between the two Russian teams stands at 2-1, still in CSKA’s favor, while their next battle on Friday can either tie the series or send CSKA to the Final Four.
