The head coaches of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague voted, and Kyle Hines won the best defender of the 2017-2018 season. Hines, wins this award for the second time in three years, as his fierce defense does not go unnoticed.
The 31-year old forward/center averaged 8.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.7 blocks per game in this year’s EuroLeague and is now getting ready to come back for Belgrade’s Final Four.
CSKA allowed an average of 93.7 points per 100 possessions with Hines on the floor while scoring 119.5 in that span for a remarkable difference of 25.8 points. One reason that CSKA performed better when he was on the floor is that his center opponents averaged just 6.4 points when Hines started for coach Itoudis.
Following Hines in the voting by EuroLeague head coaches were Nick Calathes of Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens, Branko Lazic of Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade and Edy Tavares of Real Madrid, in that order.
