When he made his debut in the EuroLeague he was still in high school. Now, it’s time he taught others a few things. Luka Doncic is not an ordinary 19-year-old kid and this can be seen by everything he does on the court. The way he combines substance and spectacle convinced the vast majority of Eurohoops’ writers across all of its editions – Greek, English, Turkish, Spanish, Russian, German – to vote him the Most Fun Player to Watch.
With 46.7% of the vote, there could only be one winner, and with figures ranging from 3.3% to 6.7%, 12 players had to make do with rounding off the list of candidates.
Panathinaikos‘s Nick Calathes, CSKA Moscow‘s Sergio Rodriguez, Khimki’s Alexey Shved and Real Madrid‘s Facundo Campazzo got 2 votes each, while Panathinaikos‘s Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Mike James, Crvena Zvezda‘s James Feldeine, Baskonia‘s Janis Timma, Khimki’s Anthony Gill, Fenerbahce‘s Jan Vesely, Zalgiris‘s Kevin Pangos and Olympiacos‘s Vassilis Spanoulis got only one each.
LUKA DONCIC
Real Madrid | Guard | 1.99 | 28/02/1999 | Slovenia
16.1 points | 4.8 rebounds | 4.4 assists | 1.1 steals | 0.3 blocks | 2.3 turnovers | 25:43 minutes | 21.8 PIR
The situation called for someone to step up. Luka Doncic did so and Real Madrid were all the better for it. The boy wonder of European – and soon, world – basketball led the Spanish team that was full of injuries on the way to the Final Four and his 21.8 points in the EuroLeague’s ranking system don’t just place him first among his teammates, but first in the entire competition.
