BELGRADE — Fenerbahce guard Brad Wanamaker had some high praise for teammate Bobby Dixon’s superb performance in the semifinal victory over Zalgiris Kaunas.
“Big nuts. We know what he can do. He’s big shot-Bobby. He’s been carrying us in big moments. He’s got all the confidence in the world,” Wanamaker said in the mixed zone following the game.
Dixon scored a game-high 19 points in less than 12 minutes for the Turkish team and defending champions. He dropped big buckets, particularly in the second half and during timely moments when Zalgiris was looking to draw closer and tied the game.
“It’s great to see him with this kind of energy. Great spark off the bench,” Fenerbahce forward/center Jason Thompson added about Dixon.
Regarding the semifinal against the Lithuanian side, Wanamaker said: “We felt relief. We knew that it’s going to be a tough game. We’ve been playing for the trophy the whole season. Obviously, we have work left to do but it’s great to get the first one.”
“They (Zalgiris) never quit. So we had to play a 40-minute game,” the American guard also mentioned.
Fenerbahce fans arrived in Belgrade in thousands to support their favorite team and Wanamaker was pleased to see them in the arena. “It felt like we were back in Ulker Arena. It’s great to see them coming here.”
