Former Estudiantes coach Salva Maldonado is the favorite to become the head coach of Gran Canaria, according to Gigantes Del Basket.
Maldonado isn’t the only candidate for the head coaching position since Spanish national team head coach Sergio Scariolo and former Andorra head coach Joan Penarroya are also considered by Gran Canaria. But the Spanish club wants to quickly fill its vacant post at the bench in order to proceed with the planning for the new season that will also include obligations in EuroLeague, apart from ACB.
Also, Maldonado is a familiar figure in Las Palmas, since he coached Gran Canaria from 2005 to 2009.
Gran Canaria will compete in EuroLeague in 2018-2019, after gaining a ticket to the top-tier European competition by making the ACB semifinals.
