Anthony Randolph expected to stay with Real Madrid

Anthony Randolph appeared to be the exit door of Real Madrid a few weeks ago but it seems that the player will remain with the reigning EuroLeague champions next season.

According to Marca, not only is Randolph fully committed to the contract he has with the team (a deal that expires at the end of the 2019-2020 season) but also Real head coach Pablo Laso has already included the player in his plans for the upcoming campaign.

Randolph was reported to be leaving the Spanish powerhouse following cases of misconduct issues (like arriving late in some practices). Laso barely used him in the semifinals vs. Gran Canaria, where Randolph averaged 10 minutes per game and in the Finals against Baskojnia, Randolph played only seven minutes in Game 1 and saw the rest of the series from the bench.

There are currently no offers from any other European club to acquire Randolph and the only way for him to leave Madrid is the NBA opt-out clause in the contract extension he signed with Real in 2017. However, the 29-year-old American forward looks determined to remain with the “Blancos” and prove that the individual lackluster finish he had in an otherwise hugely successful 2017-2018 campaign for the club and himself, was just a one-off thing.

Randolph put up 9.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 rebounds averaging 19:48 minutes per game in EuroLeague, helping Real win the “Decima” – the tenth title in the history of the club. He was forced to sit out 15 games of the regular season, most of them due to a foot injury.
