Olympiacos Piraeus announced the addition of Bulgarian forward Sasha Vezenkov. The player signed a two-year contract with the Reds.
Vezenkov, 22, is a Greek passport holder and will thus not occupy a foreign player’s spot on the roster of Olympiacos. He becomes the Greek team’s third new transfer ahead of the new season, following the acquisitions of Nigel Williams-Goss and Zach LeDay.
During the past three years, Vezenkov played for Barcelona. In 2017-2018 he averaged 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds over 11:41 minutes per game in 13 EuroLeague matches, seeing a significant playing time decrease in comparison with 2016-2017 when he posted 7.5 points and 3.2 rebounds, averaging 18 minutes per match. Barcelona parted ways with him earlier in June.
Following 2016-2017, Vezenkov was selected with the 57th overall pick in the Draft by the Brooklyn Nets that still hold his NBA rights.
Vezenkov will return to Greece where he emerged as one of the top young players in Europe with the jersey of Aris Thessaloniki. Prior to leaving for Barcelona, he had been named the Greek League MVP in 2015, at just 19 years of age.
