Barcelona head coach Svetislav Pesic discussed the upcoming season and the team’s ambition to retrace its path back to success. A.K.A.: Winning some titles.
“We are looking forward to a very exciting season, like all of them at Barça Lassa, where we expect not only to win games but titles,” Pesic said for the official website of Barcelona. “And for this you have to prepare yourself consciously. One of the most important things will be the recovery of players who had physical problems. This will also be the first season without Navarro and all players must be mentally, tactically and physically prepared for the decisive matches. That is why we will need our fans more than ever and that when we play at Palau they will be the sixth man on the court.”
Pesic’s emphasis on the need for titles is easy to understand. With the exception of the 2018 Copa Del Rey, Barcelona hasn’t won a major trophy since the 2015 Spanish Supercup.
Regarding Juan Carlos Navarro’s retirement, Pesic commented the following:
“I am sure that it [retiring from basketball] has been one of the most complicated decisions of his life because in all my career as a coach I have never met a player with more desire to play and enjoy basketball than Navarro. I have had the luck and the privilege of being able to train him in two stages and win everything. He has become a legend not only for the titles, but for the way he plays, with his own style, both with Barca and with the national team.”
