Maccabi Tel Aviv announced earlier this year that the team would form a separate roster for EuroLeague games, as it was impossible to maintain a competitive squad in Europe under the Israeli League restrictions.
However, with a new statement that was released Friday, the team mentions that “the Israeli League restrictions would remain, in one form or another”, thus a separate roster would still have to oblige to the domestic league’s rules.
Since Maccabi’s initial proposal for a second roster was made, the Israeli league has formed discussions in order to update several restrictions regarding foreign players, that led the team to keep a single roster as stated on Friday’s announcement.
The team specifically mentions: “Under these circumstances, it would be right in our assessment to wait for the results of the various discussions, since all parties are working for the same purpose – the good of Israeli basketball.”
