Olimpia Milano’s Christian Burns didn’t grow up playing basketball, but football. He was a striker in his youth, then he slowly started shaping into a power forward with guard abilities.
He discovered his love for basketball along the way, he explains: “It’s true. I was a footballer. I was a striker, I played up until my junior year in high school. Then I grew up by five inches… Actually, I was playing basketball also, but soccer was my main sport. When I grew I still had my guard skills so in high school it was a big advantage, basketball-wise. Then Colleges were coming to see me play, making offers and so I decided to stop playing soccer because I knew I was going to go to college to play basketball”.
Soon to be 33-year-old Burns isn’t worried about his age, quite the opposite as it seems:
“Everybody talks about my age, but I don’t know, my age is just a number, I think that I’m better than most 25-year old guys. The age is just nothing to me. I’m excited to start the EuroLeague this year. It’s going to be a great experience, I’m excited”, he tells in his recent interview with Olimpia Milan TV. “I’m fearless, have energy, strength, a will to win, fight and best of all a great skill set I think I have to be able to play a couple of positions. I can bang with the big guys, I can guard the 4-man, sometimes I can guard the 3-man, but I can guard multiple positions and play multiple positions.”
