It was a very successful event, allowing every club from the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and the 7DAYS EuroCup to exchange ideas about how they can work together to give much-needed support to vulnerable people in our communities.
After the session, host club KIROLBET Baskonia-Vitoria Gasteiz took the opportunity to plan for the new season by defining the qualities needed to make the perfect One Team coach, taking into account their experiences with the program over the last few years and the discussions during the workshop aimed at maximizing the efforts of coaches.
“You can talk about the ideal coach as the sum of the different qualities and personalities within a large group of people.”
The club’s social integrator, Nuria Zapatero, takes up the story:
“You cannot talk about one single person as an ideal coach,” she says. “But you can talk about the ideal coach as the sum of the different qualities and personalities within a large group of people.
“Each individual contributes in their own way, but one thing is certain: without every person, the ideal trainer could not exist. Looking at our own One Team coaches, they all give something special:
Dorleta: Dynamism. She has a great capacity for motivation, organization and memory. She has a good combination of kindness and seriousness at the same time, and always has a smile for everyone.
Ana Mari: Passion. She has a great soul and transmits to all of us – children as well as coaches and technicians – the passion we have for the sport. Her joy in the game reaches the heart of everyone.
Eneko: Connection. He has a great connection with the children. He manages to be loved and respected at the same time.
Andoni: Organization. A tireless hard worker, Andoni is able to keep us organized so we do not miss a single thing.
Iker: Resolution. He has the perseverance to reach agreements between our partners and associations, making it possible for our projects to grow not only in quantity but also in social quality.
Nuria: Motivation. She has great trust in the project and this is transmitted to the children and their families, which is very important to gain their engagement and continuity.
Txema: Self-esteem. The smile and calmness of Txema, always accompanied by his camera, helps to reinforce the self-esteem of both the children and the coaches, catching moments in time that we will never forget.”
When all these qualities are combined, they create the perfect recipe to give children the best possible experience with the activities planned by Baskonia.
And the willingness of all the coaches to combine their individual specialisms and work together stays true to the overall philosophy of the program: We Are All One Team.
One Team, supported by Turkish Airlines as the One Team Founding Patron and with the collaboration of Special Olympics as Proud Partner, uses basketball to achieve meaningful social impact in our communities across Europe and is supported by every club in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup.
Since its founding in 2012, the One Team program has already helped more than 16,000 participants through its various team-focused projects.
