Janis Timma and Janis Strelnieks are well accustomed to each other. They’ve been teammates in the Latvian National Team and now they have crossed paths again, in Greece, for Olympiacos. And yet their bond grows stronger, with no chance to get bored of each other as both admitted on Eurohoops during Olympiacos‘ EuroLeague Media Day.
The two players are set to make history for their nation, as it will be the first time two Latvian players play together in the same EuroLeague team, NT aside.
“I hope we’re just making the start”, tells newly-signed Timma. “For sure we’ve achieved something already but we’re looking forward to more”, he continues.
Strelnieks, who’s more accustomed to playing in Greece, is well aware of the fact that Latvian basketball keeps on growing outside of the Baltic. “People in Greece know about Latvian basketball, now we even have Porzingis, Kurucs and Bertans in the NBA. Our new generation is improving a lot.”
