Chris Singleton signed a one-year contract with Barcelona Lassa this summer and in his interview with Mundo Deportivo, the 28-year-old explained why he decided to commit for just one season. He wishes to lead a long-term winning project but must make sure Barca is the right club for that:
“I want to win. And I want to be sure that this Barça is ready to win. The last few years have not been good for Barça. I want to help change this and help change things. I want Barça to win again and I want there to be a nucleus of important players who will stay together for several years. I’m inclined to stay at the club, but do not want to be part of a team that is constantly changing players, that will have six new players again next year… I do not want to be part of that, I want to be a part of an important nucleus of players, that will build a team and win titles.”
He wants to be a part of the winning project but is also ready to improve himself in order to lead the club to its rightful place. He feels it will have to be more than he did during his two-year stint with Panathinaikos:
“There we had Nick Calathes and a couple of more experienced players. It was a team with a nucleus of important players who have been playing together for a long time and only added two or three pieces each year. We were together for two years. However, at Barca I think I have to take a step forward, I think I have to do more, I think I have to help this team to be at the top again, where it needs to be.”
