Real Madrid back in business with an offensive onslaught

Reigning EuroLeague champions Real Madrid are back in action with a 109-93 victory over Darussafaka Tefken Istanbul.

This should be an interesting season for the Spanish club – lots of things to process and many goals to live up to. Holding on to the pinnacle of EuroLeague while missing Slovenian wonderboy Luka Doncic doesn’t seem like a struggle, judging from their opening game. Add a healthy Sergio Llull to the equation and there’s plenty of spectacle in store.

In this scoring feast against the Turkish club, Real had multiple players standing out, including Anthony Randolph (16 p.),  Jaycee Carroll (14 p.), Fabien Causeur (13 p.) and of course Llull who also finished with 13 points.

The hosts faced no struggle from the get-go of the game and even held on to a double-digit lead at halftime (53-38), which later on expanded to unapproachable levels and set the mood for the game’s outcome.

Coach Pablo Laso, the man behind Real’s success in the 2017-18 season was honored appropriately while receiving the Alexander Gomelsky award at Wizink Center in a unanimous applause, as the cherry on top of a magnificent night for the club.

After the game, coach Laso said: “In general terms, we were in the right away after the first half. Then in the third quarter, I guess anyone who watched it here or on TV enjoyed it; it was back-and-forth basketball, they tried to open the floor a lot and the third-quarter score says it all, 38-31. Both teams hit a lot of shots and our lead went up to 20-25 points. In the end, we had the win under control. I am happy with the way the whole team was involved and for the win”.
