Zalgiris head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius spoke about the incident that took place in Zalgirio Arena earlier today when Pedro Martinez pointed out that someone was recording Baskonia’s private practice.
Jasikevicius quoted the following, according to Donatas Urbonas:
“I was having a sweet nap, but when I woke up I saw so many messages. You know, it’s a big problem of European basketball. I know many situations when it happened. But as long as I will be coaching Zalgiris, I will fight against it hard. […] It was painful to hear from a coach who I respect so much. In my opinion, he is one of the best in Europe. But I can assure that Zalgiris never recorded and will never record any practice. It’s one of my priorities to work with respect – first for yourself.”
Baskonia’s coach also referred to the incident, in the post-game press conference, mentioning that at the time of the event, the team had no idea, hence was rightfully agitated with the situation:
“I don’t know what was the problem, after the practice, we noticed that they were taking a picture. I suppose it was the tv broadcaster. You can imagine our feeling at that moment when someone was doing something like this. I think it’s normal that we’d get angry after this situation since we had an hour for a private practice.”
Things were later on clarified by EuroLeague, that officially stated Zalgiris had nothing to do with the recording.
