Anadolu Efes shocked Khimki Moscow Region, as Dogus Balbay scored an incredible three-pointer with one second on the clock to win the game for the Turkish side.
The visitors won an insane game in Russia (84-85), despite Alexey Shved’s heroics in the fourth quarter. Khimki slipped to 0-3 on the year, while Efes improved to 2-1.
To start the final period, Efes was up by 12 points (55-67), but then Alexey Shved exploded. The 29-year old superstar scored 14 straight points and brought Khimki all the way back, tying the game (69-69). In the final minutes, it seemed as Bartzokas’ team would pick up its first win of the season, as they were converting on their free-throws, but in the final possession, Dogus Balbay shocked the entire arena, with a huge three-pointer that won the game.
“For 30 minutes we played perfect and led the game but then we made defensive mistakes against Shved, and he started to find three-pointers – those are his shots. We started to miss open shots and free throws. So it was a strange game, but then with an unbelievable shot from Balba,y we won the game,” said Anadolu Efes’ head coach, Ergin Ataman after the game.
For the winning side, Rodrigue Beaubois had his best game for Anadolu Efes, scoring 25 points, while for Khimki, Alexey Shved finished with 25.
The two teams could not find their rhythm early on, as the first period lasted 45 minutes, due to clock issues. In the second quarter, however, the visitors scored 27 points, went on a 2-10 and were up by eight points at the end of the first half (37-45). Every time Khimki tried to make a comeback in the third period and cut the deficit, Efes responded perfectly and even went up by double-digits (55-67) with Moerman and Beaubois leading the way. The game was far from over.
