FC Bayern Munich took advantage of its home court and defeated Kirolbet Baskonia with a 77-71 victory in Round 4 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, whilst improving its record to 2-2.
Bayern newcomer Derrick Williams put on his best EuroLeague performance to date with 22 points. Williams, the second overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft, finished with a nearly perfect field-goal while he also added three rebounds for Dejan Radonjic’s squad. His energy in the first half helped Bayern build momentum and eventually clinch to an important win that can prove to be vital down the stretch.
“It was our best game this season for sure”, coach Radonjic mentioned in his post-game quotes. “We controlled the result all the time and it was a big success for us, for sure.”
Though it wasn’t only Williams that played a key role in the victory. Maodo Lo keeps improving week by week (after a career-high performance vs. Barcelona last week) and posted another solid performance of 15 points for the Germans.
The Spanish team wasn’t willing to go out without a fight, even though the hosts had established a double-digit lead for most of the second half. Still, despite a monstrous performance by Vincent Poirier (22 points, 11 rebounds), Baskonia will head home with their third defeat of the season.
