Zalgiris Kaunas announced that Lithuanian guard Donatas Sabeckis is loaned to German Basketball Champions League club MHP Riesen for the remainder of the season.
Per Zalgiris Kaunas:
Having joined Zalgiris this summer on a 1+1 contract, Donatas Sabeckis will not finish his season with the Lithuanian champions, as he will be joining FIBA Champions League side MHP Riesen in Ludwigsburg, Germany on loan basis.
Sabeckis has played in 7 games in the Betsafe-LKL championship so far, averaging 4.4 minutes. He had his best performance in the Zalgiris’ season opener against Pieno Zvaigzdes, as he put up 5 points, 4 assists and 2 steals in 10 minutes.
The decision to loan out the point guard was agreed upon after the addition of Derrick Walton, as Sabeckis‘ playing time would have been cut short.
Zalgiris sports director Robertas Javtokas had nothing but good words for the 25-year-old: “Donatas is a very talented player and has shown a great work ethic. He left a good impression on coach Sarunas Jasikevicius, but with the addition of Derrick Walton, his playing time dwindled even more. We want our Lithuanian players to progress and gain some much-needed game time and experience and at this moment we cannot offer that to Donatas. We wish him all the best and we’ll be looking to have him back next year.”
