Maccabi Tel Aviv head coach Neven Spahija was visibly disappointed with his team’s loss to Gran Canaria on the road.
The “Yellows” were coming off five defeats in six games and were hoping to begin a turnaround with a win vs. the Spanish team. But things played out differently.
“It was one of the most important games for us because of our start, tough schedule, a lot of injuries. We lost a lot of games. Now we hoped that we could recover and in the first game we lost. Definitely, Maccabi with this roster needs to play better basketball on both ends of the court. Offensively and defensively,” Spahija said in the post-game presser.
“We made a lot of mistakes – turnovers, some mistakes defensively – and they took advantage of that. After we made a three-point shot, we had 2 turnovers, they scored on the other side, Albert Oliver made a three in transition. They got a four-point lead and we didn’t come back. They deserved to win. They led for 90% of the game and played much more consistently than us,” Spahija added.
