Maccabi Tel Aviv’s athleticism was too much for Bayern to handle and the Israeli squad recorded a 95-71 home win in Round 10 of Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

Maccabi was ahead 27-17 after ten minutes and went on the break with a big 47-29 lead primarily thanks to Black’s 12 points their dominance in the paint as they completely outjumped Bayern. They grabbed 27 rebounds in comparison to just five of the guests.

“After 20 minutes they had a big advantage and we had a big problem with offensive rebounds. We were better in the third quarter, but we still allowed them to take 20 offensive rebounds and it was a big problem for us during the whole game”, Bayern coach Dejan Radonjic explained.

Michael Roll led the winning side with 14 while Black stayed on the 12 first-half points. Alex Tyus scored 13 points while Johnny O’Bryant flirted with a double-double as he dropped nine points and ten rebounds.

Bayern managed to close the gap a bit in the third quarter (67-55) but Maccabi responded with a 16-4 run at the start of the final period for the biggest lead of the game (83-59) leaving no doubt about the outcome.

Derrick Williams scored 15 points for Bayern in addition to Vladimir Lucic’s 11 and Petteri Koponen’s ten points.

The winning side’s coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos was very satisfied and believes their defense was the key factor: “We played really good defense, and we controlled the game from our good defense. We allowed a very good offensive team to score only 71 points, and except in the third period when we gave up some easy points we dominated the game. Offensively we had great sharing and movement of the ball and scored 95 points.”

Maccabi grabbed their second win (2-8) while Bayern holds a 4-6 record.
