Ergin Ataman has admitted before the game against Olympiacos in an interview to Superbasket.gr that for many years he was trying to sign Vassilis Spanoulis.
After the game, he was asked to elaborate on the matter and he did. “I always wanted to sign Spanoulis, almost in every team that I was the coach“, said Ataman, “but he always preferred to stay in Olympiacos. I respect that. He is a great player and despite being 36 years old, he remains the leader of his team“.
It seems at this point that Ataman will never have Spanoulis on his roster, but the respect between the two men remains mutual.
