Anthony Randolph and Jaycee Carroll led Real Madrid’s furious first half which was crucial in their 92-65 home win against Barcelona Lassa in Round 12 of Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
Randolph scored 16 points for the victors in addition to Carroll’s 15. Trey Thompkins added 17 and Walter Tavares helped with 12 points. For Barcelona, Thomas Heurtel scored 16 and Kevin Pangos 11 points.
Barcelona scored the first basket but that was their only lead in the game. Randolph banked three shots from deep for 13 points in the first quarter as he kept Real ahead 22-17 and then Caroll took over. He nailed 15 points in the second period and combined with Tavares’ paint dominance on both ends, Real had full control hitting the 20-point mark (50-30).
As if it wasn’t enough, Facundo Campazzo put the nail in the coffin by hitting a full-court buzzer and giving the hosts a huge 53-30 lead at halftime.
“All the moments are important and the basket of Facu (Campazzo) was five, but the feeling is that we were playing well as a team for 40 minutes. For me, Gustavo Ayón has made a great match and his numbers don’t shine“, said coach Pablo Laso after the game.
Although Real had a few ups and downs during the second half, Barcelona couldn’t get closer than the 15-point mark (64-49) as the hosts stayed focused and closed the game in their favor.
Real improved to 10-2, playing without ill Rudy Fernandez who missed the game due to the flue, while Barcelona now stands at a 6-6 record.
Before the game, Real Madrid honored former legendary coach Pedro Ferrandiz, who is celebrating his 90th birthday.
