Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul prevailed over Zalgiris Kaunas with a 78-61 victory in Round 18 of Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and remains first in the standings with a 16-2 record.
Kostas Sloukas and Melih Mahmutoglu paced the hosts with a 14-point performance each, while Jan Vesely posted a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds.
It was an intense game for both sides, while things got heated up in Zalgiris’ bench during a first half timeout as Fenerbahce rallied with double-digit leads. While Sarunas Jasikevicius’ explicit language managed to get his players back on track in the second half, Zalgiris wasn’t able to recover and escape with the win from Istanbul.
Brandon Davies posted a team-high performance of 12 points for Zalgiris, that falls to a 7-11 record in the standings.
