Baskonia GM: Two-way contracts hurt European market

Baskonia GM Felix Fernandez commented on the increasing difficulty of signing players midseason due to the changes in the market. A result also of the two-way contracts that can be more attractive to a player than a deal in Europe.

“The markets are always changing. The NBA gets many players, especially their second league. They didn’t use to give much importance to the G League and now they are giving it importance. These two-ways contracts also hurt the European market. There’s the Chinese market… Even Japan,” Fernandez said during the presentation of new Baskonia forward Jalen Jones.

Fernandez also mentioned that Baskonia may sign a player before the Copa Del Rey. Preferably a guard.

“We are working on it. I would lie if I said yes, I would lie if I said no. We don’t rule out anything. If we see something that we think can help the team and that can give us a quality jump, we will try and work it, as we have done with Jones. We are working all the time. We are looking for a good player. If it’s a “1”, perfect. If it’s a “2” perfect. We will take the best player that the market gives us.”
