Zalgiris’ Birutis has knee surgery

Zalgiris Kaunas announced that center Laurynas Birutis was operated on his knee Thursday (14/2). No recovery time was given.

Per Zalgiris Kaunas:

Zalgiris big man Laurynas Birutis underwent knee surgery on Thursday morning. He had been playing with ailments all season long, therefore a decision to address the inveterate consequences of a former injury was taken.

Despite the pain, Birutis helped the Lithuanian champions make it to the Final Four of the Kidy Tour King Mindaugas Cup on Wednesday, and has averaged 7.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 15 minutes in the Betsafe-LKL championnship.

The young center, standing at 213 cm, would put up an average of 2.7 points in 7 minutes of action in the EuroLeague.

Birutis became the MVP of the Betsafe-LKL regular season last year, earning the trust of coach Sarunas Jasikevicius in the process.
