Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu said that the club isn’t considering hiring Sarunas Jasikevicius since they are satisfied with Svetislav Pesic.
“Jasikevicius won’t come because we have Pesic who is doing very well,” Bartomeu said in an interview to the ‘Sin Conscesones’ show of Radio Kanal Barcelona. “When he arrived we won the Cup when almost no one expected us. He put some order and brought back confidence to the players. Pesic can endure for another year.”
Last summer Pesic had reportedly told his players that “if Jasikevicius comes, he can be my third assistant,“ during a speech before Game 3 of the quarterfinals vs. Baskonia.
Jasikevicius had just led Zalgiris Kaunas to the EuroLeague Final Four for the first time since 1999 and was rumored to be targeted by Barcelona.
Regarding Barcelona’s ambitions, Bartomeu added that the goal is to “win the EuroLeague” and that the team plans to make some strong transfers on summer.”We want to sign players that will raise our level again,” he mentioned.
