Jordi Bertomeu sat down with Spanish Cadena SER to talk about the latest developments around various EuroLeague teams. Asked about Real Madrid continuing in the EuroLeague after a possible ACB exit, he replied: “There is a possibility that a team plays in EuroLeaague without playing in its domestic competitions”.
Bertomeu clarified that EuroLeague is “a company, not a federation”. “The owners make the decisions. They make the best decisions for the competition, which allows us to avoid some bureaucratic procedures. The future can bring many changes. As a company, we must be flexible” he mentioned.
On the eleven teams contracted with EuroLeague and their responsibilities, he added: “The owners will decide through a revision of three rules. If needed, there will be a modification. In this case, the clubs would study the rules and determine what is best for the company”.
Besides Real possible departure from ACB competitions, Olympiacos is also considering its options on abandoning Greek competitions. It’s now obvious EuroLeague will attempt to adapt to any decisions taken by these or any other team.
