With five players scoring in double figures, Real Madrid defeated Bayern Munich 91 – 78 to improve its record to 18 – 5 and secure a spot in the EuroLeague playoffs.
“We are happy about this but there’s a lot of work to do. We want to finish at the Top 4,” Real Madrid guard Sergio Llull said in the post-game flash interview.
Llull notched team-highs 15 points and seven assists. Gabriel Deck, Jaycee Carroll, and Anthony Randolph dropped 13 points apiece with the latter also contributing six rebounds. Edy Tavares nearly had a double-double by finishing with 10 points and nine boards.
Danilo Barthel finished with 14 points, five rebounds and four steals for Bayern that dropped to 11-12 and is now tied with Baskonia at the eighth spot. The Bavarians were more than competitive until the mid of the third period, but with the score 46 – 45, Real seriously turned up the offensive.
The “Blancos” scored 25 points in less than seven minutes to close the quarter up 71 – 52, an advantage that proved to be more than safe. Bayern never managed to reduce the margin in single digits for the remainder of the match.
Vladimir Lucic added 10 points and six rebounds. Petteri Koponen and Nihad Djedovic scored 10 each as well.
