Baskonia forward Patricio Garino revealed that he briefly considered quitting basketball overall these past months due to continuous injury issues.
“Mentally, it was a rollercoaster of emotions,” Garino said on his rehabilitation period during a presser ahead of Baskonia’s game vs. Zalgiris Kaunas and his projected return to action. “I went through being calm due to the recovering, to the injury having a relapse. I had moments that made me want to return home (Argentina), quit basketball and have a fresh start.”
Garino suffered an MCL sprain on November, nine games into the EuroLeague season. Just when he was returning to action in January, a relapse kept him on the sidelines for more than a month.
In 2017-2018, Garino also faced some injury problems first, hurting his leg and then sustaining a jaw fracture.
“But now that’s gone. With the help of many people I was able to move forward and now I’m positive,” Garino added.
“The truth is that my desire to play is very difficult to describe with words. I had so much time out, so many problems. I really want to play. I’m trying to control my emotions, the despair, and the anxiety because it’s been a lot I went through,” Garino also said.
