One of the greatest clutch players in the game, Olympiacos Piraeus guard Vassilis Spanoulis, sits down next to Joe Arlauckas to discuss his legendary career on the latest episode of EuroLeague’s The Crossover podcast.
A former EuroLeague MVP and the Final Four MVP each of the three times he led his team to the continental crown – with Panathinaikos Athens in 2009 and with Olympiacos in 2012 and 2013 – Spanoulis has been a model for how hard work, dedication and passion can pave one’s way to success.
Among the many interesting subjects that came up was Spanoulis’s 2010 move from Panathinaikos Athens to its archrival Olympiacos, a topic the guard rarely talks about.
“It was the right team at the right time for me. This is what I thought. My heart told me this, to do it. It was a clear decision. I thought about it and I said, ‘This is my destiny. This is my karma. I will follow it,” Spanoulis said. “I have big, big confidence in myself that I can succeed. That’s why I took the decision. You cannot take this decision just because you want to go there. You have to have confidence because you know all the pressure that you will face from the Olympiacos fans, who see you as someone who can take you to the title and after from Panathinaikos fans because you left their team.”
