FC Bayern Munich managed to end the 2018-2019 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season on a high note, after an easy win, 84 – 77 over Herbalife Gran Canaria. The German side finished the season with a 14-16 record, while Gran Canaria ended with 8-22.
Thanks to Derrick Williams’ 14-point half, the hosts built a nine-point lead (44-35). Dejan Radonjic’s team was shooting 60% from the field, showing out on offense.
The lead even grew to 20 points in the third quarter (65-45), after Petteri Koponen and Vladimir Lucic were scoring for the home team, and Stefan Jovic was facilitating the offense with a game-high eight assists. Sim-Sander Vene was trying to keep the visitors in the game with his scoring, but he didn’t have any help from his teammates.
The deficit was eventually cut to single digits in the final quarter, but it was too late for a comeback.
“We played a good game, except the last few minutes,” said Bayern’s head coach after the final buzzer. “We controlled the game the entire time and got one more win. We played a great season. Before the season we talked about our goal of being competitive during the season, and in the end, we have 14 wins. It is the most by a German club in a EuroLeague season, and I am very satisfied with our performance in the EuroLeague this season.”
Williams scored a game-high 20 points for the winners, while also adding six rebounds. Lucic added 13. For the losing side, Vene put up 19 points.
